January is an exciting time to be a high school theatre student in Utah. The Utah Shakespeare Festival in October was again a highly engaging event for students across the state. Many schools performed fall musicals before Thanksgiving or in early December. This month, the Utah Theatre Association (UTA) is hosting nearly 2,000 students, parents, teachers and vendors for their annual conference which is being held at Utah State University this weekend. But once this whirlwind passes, Utah is going to start having an outpouring of shows at local high schools for patrons across the state to enjoy.

UTBA does not formally review secondary productions. It serves neither the educational purposes of school programs nor the mission of UTBA to put professional reviewers on high school productions for a wide variety of reasons. We do, however, love any reason to celebrate that the rising generation continues to have great connection to the arts through engaged and supported school programs that give opportunities to thousands of students who might not otherwise get them. As such, we have connected with the Utah Advisory Council of Theatre Teachers (UACTT) to share productions that are upcoming. We know that this is not a comprehensive list, but we plan to share upcoming spring and fall productions going forward so audiences can better connect with their communities.

Let us know in the comments what other shows you’re looking forward to seeing! Break all the legs, don’t say the name of the Scottish Play in your theatres, and keep your ghost lights on! Schools are listed by district (north to south) and alphabetically within districts. Private schools are at the bottom.
