PLEASANT GROVE — UTBA is pleased to support Center Stage Youth Performers, a youth theater company in Utah County. The folks at Center Stage hope to take some of the students to New York City to experience some of the best musical theatre that the world has to offer.  In addition to seeing four Broadway productions, these students will enjoy backstage tours and workshops with Broadway performers.  Center Stage Director Lori Sanders said, “One workshop that I’m really excited about is when we’ll have a performer who is in the cast of one of the shows we’ll be seeing, come teach us a song and dance from the show.  Then the kids will go see the show that night.  They’ll see their workshop teacher in the show as well as the song and dance they just learned.”  We think that’s pretty cool.

But to make this experience possible for these kids, Center Stage needs some help.  They’ve applied for a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project.  In order to earn the grant, they need to receive enough votes to be in the top 10 of their category.  So, we’re asking UTBA readers to vote for their project.  There are three ways you can help out:

  • Visit www.refresheverything.com/nyc to log in and vote.  (You can log in with a Facebook or other social networking account.)
  • Text “104440” to Pepsi (73774).  Standard text messaging rates apply.
  • Vote through the Pepsi Refresh Voting App on your smart phone.  Once you have the app, just search for “Center Stage.”

You can vote up to three times in a day.  Voting ends on January 31st.

“This is the kind of trip that could change a theater kid’s life forever,” Sanders told UTBA.  “Most of them have never been to a Broadway show, and we plan to see four of them.  These kids are awesome and deserve the chance to take this trip.  So many of the kids had told me that they wouldn’t be able to go with us because their families couldn’t afford it.  But if we get the grant, it will cover a huge portion of everyone’s trip.  This grant will make it possible for all of them to come with us.”
