Utah Valley University School of the Arts hosts a production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in the Smith Theater at the NOORDA Center for the Performing Arts on the UVU Campus in Orem, Utah on Wednesday October 23, 2019. (Jay Drowns / UVU Marketing)

OREM — You may have already read C. T. Lewis’s review of the Utah Repertory Theater Company production of Sweeney Todd at Utah Valley University. We were invited by Broadway World to write a guest review of the production for their site, too. Maren Swenson, a UTBA staff member and one of our American Theatre Critics Association members, wrote the guest review, which you can read at this link.

Reading the two reviews side by side is enlightening. There are some aspects of the show that they both independently commented on, but also important differences in their opinions about the production. This is the sort of conversation we love to foster, and we appreciate our colleagues at Broadway World for making this possible.

Of course, to form an opinion about a production, nothing beats seeing it for yourself. Sweeney Todd is one of the hottest tickets in town right now, and we encourage UTBA fans to attend the play and decide which review they agree with more.
