We had a ton of fun experiencing all that Utah theatre had to offer in April, and now we have a whole new month upon us in May. It’s a lighter month but still some great plays and musicals for all to enjoy. Here’s what you should prioritize:
A couple of classic musicals are on slate you won’t want to miss. First the national tour of Annie comes to Eccles May 10-12. Then you won’t want to cry for Evita at The Empress May 10-25. And who can forget Stephen Sondheim’s masterpiece Company at the Ziegfeld May 24-June 2.
More contemporary musicals there’s the fan favorite Daddy Long Legs at Lehi Arts Council May 3-18. Spring Awakening is not often performed in Utah but can be seen at the Hart Theater Company in their new venue in Salt Lake May 9-June 2. Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre is being transformed for Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, which can be seen May 10-25th. And families will go under the sea with The Little Mermaid at Draper Amphitheater May 24-June 8.
In the world of straight plays there are 3 memorable offerings. First up is The Nerd at Timpanogos Valley Theatre April 26-May 11th and Pride and Prejudice adapted by local playwright Melissa Leilani Larson at The Grand Theatre May 16-June 8. Finally there’s The Time Machine at Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy May 6-July 20.
What are you planning on seeing? We hope you will get out and support the amazing live theater that’s all around us. If you are in a production and would like it to be reviewed by our critics please submit your request to us and we’ll do our best to get it covered. Happy theater!
